UA Fort Smith too much down the stretch for @StMUvolleyball

By Ruben Dominguez | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — In the second-to-last home game of the season, Rattler Volleyball dropped a straight-set decision, 3-0, to the visiting Lions of the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith inside Bill Greehey Arena Thursday night.

The Snakes made it tough in the opening frame for the Lions, pushing the set to 25-23 before narrowly missing out. That would be all UA Fort Smith would need to pull away as they took the remaining sets, 25-18 and 25-15, to seal the victory.

Despite the loss, St. Mary's had three players, Channing Hankins, Maddi King, and Tori Estrada in double digits for digs with 11, 13 and 13, respectively. Kalyn Guthrie led the team in assists on the night with 14 to her name, with Rachael Scicchitano also adding 12. Hankins would also have a team-high 10 kills.

The women will return to their home floor Saturday for Senior Day as they take on the Jets of Newman University. This will also serve as the regular season finale for St. Mary's.

The match is set to start at 12 p.m. inside Bill Greehey Arena.
