@StMUvolleyball powers past St. Edward's

SAN ANTONIO — It was the Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Match inside Bill Greehey Arena Thursday night as the St. Mary's Rattlers and the St. Edward's Hilltoppers met in another Battle of the Saints, won by the Rattlers 3-1.
 
On a night themed "Pink Power" in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, the Rattlers flexed their muscles with a strong surge in front of the largest home crowd of the season, taking the first set 25-20, behind a strong showing from the senior duo of Jenna Paul (Sr., Alvin, Texas) and Lauren Holman (Sr., Rowlett, Texas).
 
After two sets, the teams were tied at one set apiece. In the pivotal third set, the Rattlers rallied to take the game 25-23, carrying the momentum into the fourth set, where they did not look back, blowing past the Hilltoppers 25-9, avenging their loss at St. Edward's earlier this season.
 
Paul and Holman led the team with 11 kills while Channing Hankins (Fr., Katy, Texas) added ten kills, propelling the Rattlers to their second straight victory. In addition, Maddy Walsh (Fr., Arlington, Texas) and Rachael Scicchitano (Jr., McKinney, Texas) tacked on a match high 21 assists apiece as Tori Estrada (Sr., San Antonio) led the Rattlers with 30 digs.
 
The Rattlers will continue their stretch of three home matches in three days Friday against Angelo State at 6 p.m.
