SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Volleyball couldn't hold on to a two-set lead over Texas A&M International, falling 3-2 in a Heartland Conference battle Saturday.

Texas A&M International won 14-25, 19-25, 26-24, 25-21, 15-13 at Bill Greehey Arena.

Channing Hankins led the squad with 16 kills and 18 points, while Tarine Grace hit .414 with 14 kills in the match. Tori Estrada had a team-high 22 digs followed by Rachael Scicchitano's 21. Scicchitano led the Rattlers with 37 assists in the match.

St. Mary's (3-14, 1-7 Heartland Conference) looked in control early, finishing the first set on fire, closing out the frame on a 12-2 run to win 25-14. The freshman Hankins dominated the game, registering seven kills and playing a vital role in seemingly every Rattler rally, including kill gave St. Mary's its first lead of the set at 12-11. Grace had the decisive point in the frame.

The Rattlers came out sluggish in the second, trailing 13-6 before going on a 5-0 run to trim the deficit to 13-11. St. Mary's would tie the match 15-15, 17-17 and 18-18 before closing out the Dustdevils (5-8, 5-4) down the stretch. Hankins assisted a Lauren Holman kill that put St. Mary's up 19-18, launching a 6-0 run that saw the Rattlers on the brink of winning the set. The Rattlers eventually won on a TAMIU attack error, taking the set 25-19.

With a chance for StMU to close out the match in the third set, TAMIU answered back with its best game of the match. Surviving a feverish Rattler rally coming out of a timeout with TAMIU up 24-20, the Dustdevils held on 26-24 to force a fourth set.

The Rattlers trailed for most of the fourth, including down 14-7 early. But StMU went on a tear, closing a 17-11 deficit by tying it up at 20-20 on a point from Grace. But the Dustdevils came out of a timeout on fire, reeling off four straight points to take a 24-20 lead in an eventual 25-21 victory.
