Box Score SAN ANTONIO — The Rattlers found their niche for striking at the end of each half Wednesday, defeating Our Lady of the Lake 2-1 with two late half goals.
Both St. Mary's Women's Soccer and the Saints attacked the net hard in the first frame at Our Lady of the Lake Field recording eight and five shots respectively, but neither squad was able to snap the net in what looked like was going to be a stalemate at the half.
But with 5:20 left in the first half, freshman
Roxy Cruz Santory broke open the game, scoring her first collegiate goal on an unassisted strike to put the Rattlers in the lead 1-0.
The Rattlers' lead was short-lived however as the Saints powered at the start of the final frame to score eight minutes in to make it a tie game, 1-1.
Both teams again were aggressive on offense, recording 10 shots apiece in the final frame.
As overtime loomed with five minutes remaining on the clock,
Kaitie Kasperitis (Sr., Corpus Christi, Texas) found sophomore
Kristal Williams (Ponder, Texas).
Williams struck with the clutch goal, recording the game-winner in the Rattlers' second season victory and her first season goal.
The teams contested well offensively with the Rattlers recording 18 total shots with 11 shot on goal and the Saints (2-6) recording 15 shots with seven shot on goal.
Alyssa Taramona (Jr., Forney, Texas) put up six saves in the victory, improving her record to 2-4 on the season.
Brittney Lacek (Jr., Gillette, Wyo.) led with three shots on goal out of three shots. Also recording three total shots were
Rachel Gurinsky (Fr., San Antonio), Cruz Santory and Kasperitis.
The Rattlers improved to 2-4 on the season with their win over the Saints.
