SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Softball now has a winning streak to match its ranking.

The No. 14-ranked Rattlers swept Sunday's action, besting Midwestern State 4-3 and Tarleton State 6-0 to round out the Rattler Invitational with an unscathed 6-0 record Sunday.

Designated player Laura Benavidez racked up three more RBIs on the day to give her a whopping 10 for the tournament — and 15 for the week — while ace Emily Brittain picked up the victory in the circle over Tarleton State and a save against Midwestern State to improve to 3-0 for the weekend.

The Rattler duo was named Co-Most Valuable Players for the tournament, while outfielder Katie Nichols and third baseman Nicole Sardelich joined them on the All-Tournament Team.

St. Mary's, 18-3 on the season, recorded three shutouts over the six-game tournament, capped off by Sunday's shutout of Tarleton State — the Rattlers' third victory over the TexAnns this week.

The Rattlers used a two-run first inning to take control early, and used a three-run fourth inning to effectively put the game away with a six-run lead. Haley Richter launched a solo home run in the game, while Sardelich drove in one run as well.

Earlier, St. Mary's used a similar script to defeat the Mustangs, jumping to a 2-0 lead in the first before tacking on two more in the third to lead 4-0. Though MSU cut into the deficit with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, St. Mary's held on to prevail.

Sardelich went 2 for 3 in the game, while second baseman Amanda Villa drove in a pair of runs.

Vianna Gutierrez got the win against Midwestern State, improving to 4-1 on the season.

The Rattlers will travel to take on Angelo State for a doubleheader Wednesday in San Angelo, Texas.
