SAN ANTONIO — It's safe to say
Kaitie Kasperitis is back to her old self.
Saddled by injuries in 2012, the junior striker is healthy once again — a scary thought for St. Mary's opponents.
Kasperitis (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas) netted three goals in St. Mary's 8-0 women's soccer victory over Houston-Victoria at Our Lady of the Lake Field on Tuesday, becoming just the third Lady Rattler in the program's history with multiple hat tricks in a career.
Kasperitis, who also had a hat trick as a freshman on Sept. 20, 2011, has totaled six goals over the first week of the 2013 season. She joins Angelo Molock and Michelle Martinez as Rattlers who have posted two hat tricks in their careers.
"My knee's not aching me as much as it was last year, or really at all," said Kasperitis, whose 22 career goals is No. 3 in St. Mary's history. "It feels really good to be back and scoring."
While Kasperitis headlined St. Mary's (2-0-1) offensive attack Tuesday, she was far being the only Rattler in on the fun.
Ashlyn Leighton,
Amanda Cardoza,
Jamey Coronado,
Ronika Cavazos and
Brianna Shafer also added goals, while goalkeepers
Alyssa Taramona and
Paola Ostos combined to get the shutout in the net.
Taramona picked up the victory to improve to 2-0 on the season.
On a day that saw a heavy rainstorm soak the field midway through the game, there was nothing soggy about St. Mary's play. The Rattlers had 21 shots on the day, with 16 being on goal.
Katy Belew assisted two goals, while
Claire Etter assisted another.
St. Mary's will hit field again Friday, where it travels to Golden, Colo., to take on Colorado School of Mines.
