1,000! Migl records milestone victory

St. Mary's icon becomes 11th NCAA D-II baseball coach with 1,000 wins

St. Mary's coach Charlie Migl is the fourth-winningest active coach in D-II.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GOODWELL, Okla. — St. Mary's baseball coach Charlie Migl has become just the 11th person in NCAA Division II baseball history with 1,000 career wins.

The milestone victory came in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Friday, with the No. 13 Rattlers pulling away 9-1 for Migl's 1,000th career victory. 

The St. Mary's community will celebrate the milestone prior to next Tuesday's 7 p.m. game against Incarnate Word at Wolff Stadium. A reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. inside the park, with free food and drinks available. Parking is free at the venue, and St. Mary's students, staff and faculty get free admission with their St. Mary's ID cards, while Rattler Nation members also receive free admission with their membership cards.

Migl, who led the Rattlers to the NCAA Division II national title in 2001, has a career record of 1,000-445 in 26-plus season since taking over the St. Mary's program in 1987. He is the fourth-winningest active coach in all of Division II baseball.

Migl has led the Rattlers to 13 conference championships, five NCAA Division II regional appearances, a pair of D-II regional championships and has coached 29 All-Americans. Last season, he was named the NCBWA National Coach of the Year after leading the Rattlers to the national tournament after winning the South Central Region. 

Valdosta State's Tommy Thomas is the all-time career wins leader in D-II with 1,308 victories.

Hours after taking Game 1 by the score of 9-1, the Rattlers won the backend of the doubleheader, 13-0, in eight innings. Carl O'Neal (Sr., San Antonio) picked up the historic Game 1 win on the mound, while Matt McClain (So., San Antonio) earned the win in Game 2.
