SAN ANTONIO — The No. 48 St. Mary's women's tennis team bounced back from Sunday's loss to ACU in commanding fashion, winning 8-1 over Heartland Conference newcomer McMurry University.
The Lady Rattlers started fast, sweeping the doubles matches to go up 3-0 heading into singles play.
In singles, the St. Mary's women jumped McMurry fast, winning five of the six matches in lopsided straight-set victories.
The only loss for the Rattlers came at the No. 6 position, where junior
Mia Jupe lost in a closely contested three-setter. After winning the first set, Jupe was unable to close out the match and fell in a match deciding tiebreaker 10-4. The final score was 1-6, 6-2, 10-4 in favor of McMurry's Autumn Patterson.
“We came out firing on all cylinders,” said St. Mary's head coach
Lisa Dausin. “This is a great way to bounce back from a loss.”
St. Mary's women's tennis moves to 12-4 on the season.
