SAN ANTONIO — A two-run blast from Christina Rodriguez in the first inning had the looks for a quick win, but Tarleton State charged to win 13-6 in St. Mary's second loss on the first day of the St. Mary's Round Robin.

In her third home run on the season, Rodriguez's (Sr., San Antonio) two-run shot was overshadowed by the TexAnns '(10-6) five-run third inning and six-run sixth inning. Three errors and the TexAnns' heavy bats stunted the Rattlers (13-6) Friday night. Despite a late surge in a three-hit, two-run final inning, St. Mary's was unable to regain the lead at the Northside ISD Softball Field.

The Rattlers pelted nine hits to the TexAnns' 12, with Emily Brittain (Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas) picking up the loss, but not before striking out nine in her 5 2/3 innings.

Nicole Sardelich (So., Angleton, Texas) led at the plate as the Rattlers' only multiple-hit player, slicing two hits including her 11th double on the season. Sardelich has blazed all season for the Rattlers, leading the team with a .522 batting average and a team-high 46 total bases.

Sardelich also smacked two hits, including a double, in the Rattlers' first loss on the day against Lubbock Christian University, 6-3. Maricela Bissaro (Jr., San Antonio) picked up her first loss on the season for a 1-1 record.

After going on a six-game winning streak, all won on the road, the Rattlers' two losses Saturday provided a need to refocus.

“Taking two losses is pretty hard in itself,” said the Rattlers' third baseman, Sardelich. “And I think now we're are just going to be more determined to get those two losses back. That right there is putting more determination in us.”

The Rattlers start Day Two of the St. Mary's Round Robin against Lubbock Christian University Saturday at Northside ISD Softball Field at 2:15 p.m.
