SAN ANTONIO — The No. 48 St. Mary's women's tennis team stays undefeated as the Lady Rattlers picked up a 8-1 victory Thursday over crosstown rival NCAA Division III No. 15 Trinity University.
The Lady Rattlers started off strong by sweeping the doubles for the third straight match, winning convincingly with scores of 8-3, 8-1 and 8-3.
The St. Mary's women carried the momentum from the doubles into singles play, winning five of six singles positions. The only loss for St. Mary's came at the No. 5 singles position, where St. Mary's senior
Elisha Bryant (Plano, Texas) fell in a closely contested 7-5, 7-5 match to Trinity's Gabrielle Roe.
“Our focus has been primarily on doubles since we returned from Christmas break,” St. Mary's head coach
Lisa Dausin said. “To come out of the doubles up 3-0 was a huge reward for the effort put in. Our girls truly had to fight for every single point. I am extremely pleased with our tenacity as a whole to come out with a result such as this.”
St. Mary's women's tennis next takes the court to play its first nationally ranked Division II opponent, No. 38 Midwestern State University, Saturday at 2 p.m. in Wichita Falls, Texas.
