RICHARDSON, Texas — After starting Lone Star Conference play with a 2-0 record, St. Mary's University Men's Soccer graduate student
Filipe Bastos was named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Bastos, a transfer from Bryant and a native of Santa Maria de Faria, Portugal, helped anchor the defense, which allowed only one goal on the week in wins over Lubbock Christian (4-1) and Sul Ross State (1-0). Bastos also recorded an assist on the game-tying goal in the 11th minute against LCU. Bastos, who played three different defensive positions over the two matches, helped record a clean sheet in a 1-0 road match against SRSU.
He is the third Rattler to win a weekly honor this season, joining
Lewis Boney (9/14, Defense) and
Eduardo Fernandez (9/14, Offense).
St. Mary's hosts St. Edward's on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the Battle of the Saints as part of a doubleheader with the volleyball team, which faces Texas A&M-Kingsville at 2 p.m.
