Men's Soccer Takes Down No. 9 Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Staying aggressive, the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team took to the road for the first time in 2026 and upset ninth-ranked Rogers State, 2-1 on Saturday evening.

"This was a big win on the road, and I'm really proud of the boys," said Head Coach Johnny Clifford. "I thought we were unlucky to be down at half, as we were controlling the game and just lacked quality in the final third. We turned it around in the second half and ground out a great result."

The Hillcats (4-1-1) scored in the 27th minute and entered the locker room up 1-0. The Rattlers were able to score twice in the second half for their third-straight victory and improved to 3-2.

Senior Ricky Alvarez (Dripping Springs, Texas) found sophomore Eduardo Fernandez (San Antonio) in the 60th minute for the tying goal. It is the fifth goal of the season for Fernandez and his fourth this week after scoring the hat trick against Sul Ross State on Wednesday.

In the 66th minute, Fernandez passed the ball to Alvarez, who found sophomore Kai Louviere (Hondo, Texas) open for the game-winning goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Nichita Misac (Lisbon, Portugal) made six saves, and the team added another, saving three in the first half and four in the second in the team's first road game of the season.

The Rattlers' back line of Lucas Cobo (Chavannes Des Bois, Switzerland), Pape Gueye (San Antonio), and senior AJ Valdivia (Perris, Calif.) all played the entire 90 minutes, as did Misac in goal.

St. Mary's remains on the road, heading to the Pacific Northwest to play in the GNAC-LSC Challenge in Salem, Ore., against Saint Martin's on Thursday, Sept. 17 and Saturday, Sept. 19 against Northwest Nazarene.
