SALEM, Ore. — Playing in the state of Oregon for the first time in school history, the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team kept the winning streak alive and pushed it to four matches with a 3-1 victory over Saint Martin's on Thursday afternoon at Pioneer Sports Park.
 
"Honestly, we started a little slow today," said Head Coach Johnny Clifford. "It took us a bit of time to get used to the turf, and we managed to score two quick goals at the end of the half to settle in. We controlled the game better in the second half. It was a good performance, but we are going to need to be better on Saturday, and our focus turns to that now."
 
The Rattlers scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes of the first half as sophomore Ryan Guillaume (Trelex, Vaud, Switzerland) found sophomore Kai Louviere (Hondo, Texas) for the first score of the day and moments later, sophomore Sebastian Poblete (Miami, Fla.) scored for the 2-0 lead.
 
In the 85th minute, the Saints (3-3-1) got a goal back as Grant Deuel scored from approximately six yards out on a pass from Calvin Boyal for the 2-1 tally.
 
Less than a minute later, the Rattlers got the insurance goal back as senior Jeth Flores (Missouri City, Texas) won a toss-up in the middle of the pitch and found sophomore Sean Borland (Glasgow, Scotland) open from about 20 yards out for the final goal of the night.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Nichita Misac (Lisbon, Portugal) made three saves, all in the first half, as the Rattlers (4-2-0) did not allow a shot on goal in the second period. StMU outshot the Saints 9-to-6 and had three more corners, 7-to-4.
 
The Rattlers remain in Salem for the GNAC-LSC Midseason Challenge and will face Northwest Nazarene on Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT). There will be no video streaming of the match, but live stats will be available on Rattlerathletics.com. The Nighthawks defeated West Texas A&M 1-0 on Thursday.
