SAN ANTONIO — After an early goal by Fort Lewis, the St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team stayed focused and scored the equalizer in the 54th minute for a 1-1 draw in the 2026 season opener at Sigma Beta Chi Field. 
 
The start of the game was delayed 45 minutes due to lightning in the area. As the teams took the field for starting introductions, lightning struck, clearing the field.
 
After the delay, the Skyhawks' Emma Gurule took a feed from Jenna Salazar and found an open net 2:30 into the match for the 1-0 lead. 
 
Freshman Victoria Morales (Kaufman, Texas) headed a ball on a corner kick to senior standout Elena Kossler (Ötztal-Bahnhof, Austria), who flicked a pass to freshman Kamrynn Martinez (Dallas) for the game-tying goal in the 54th minute.
 
The Rattlers (0-0-1) outshot the Skyhawks (0-0-1) 17-to-15 on the night, and sophomore goalkeeper Molly Lyons (Galveston, Texas) made six saves in her first start for the Gold and Blue. Lyons made five of her six saves after intermission, as the Skyhawks took 10 shots in the second period.
 
Newcomers Lauren Mueller (San Antonio), Martinez, Emilee Durante (San Antonio), and Morales all played the entire 90 minutes.
 
The Rattlers remain at home, hosting Lynn on Saturday at noon. The Fighting Knights defeated Texas A&M International on Thursday, 2-1 in Laredo.
