ROCKWALL, Texas — The No. 16 St. Mary's University Women's Golf team is 10 shots off the lead after the first day of the Lone Star Conference Championship at the Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club.
DBU and UT Tyler are locked in a tie for first place at +7, while West Texas A&M is +12, Midwestern State is +13, and the Rattlers are +17 after 36 holes.
Junior
Taylor Wilczek (Anthem, Ariz.), who was named to the Lone Star All-Conference First Team on Sunday evening, leads the way for St. Mary's in a tie for fourth place. Wilczek shot a one-over 73 in the first round and followed it up with a two-under 70 in round two. She is currently three shots behind the individual leader, Martha Laremark from UT Tyler, who totaled 140 strokes in the first two rounds.
Freshman
Manon Verret (Toulouse, France) is in a five-way tie for 16th place after firing rounds of 71 and 78 on Monday (149/+5), while sophomores
Brielle Burns (74-77=151) and
Sabree Lefebvre (76-75=151) are two strokes behind her at seven-over-par in a tie for 23rd place.
Sophomore
Sophia Perkins (Sydney, Australia) shot identical rounds of 77 on the day and is in a two-way tie for 31st place at 154 strokes (+10).
The Rattlers will golf with UT Dallas and Lubbock Christian on Tuesday in the final round of stroke play. The teams will begin on holes five through nine at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start. The top four teams will advance to medal match play on Wednesday.
