SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team was dominant in the season opener, shutting out McMurry, 7-0, on Friday afternoon at Rohrbach Stadium.
The number three doubles team of freshman
Diego Alvarez (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and junior
Louis Hein (Hamburg, Germany) got things going with a 6-0 victory.
Moments later, sophomore Lucas Castillo-Sanchez (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and
Victor Velter (Perpignan, France) won on court one with the 6-1 score, and the team of
Ollie Eriksson (Austin, Texas) and
Nikita Gavrilonoks (Riga, Latvia) won 6-2 for the clean sweep.
The clean play carried over to singles action as all six Rattlers won in straight sets, and
Leonardo Fabbri (Faenza, Italy) at one,
Florian Smalto (Paris, France) at three, Gavrilonoks at four, and
Fabian Rosales (Hollywood, Fla.) at six all won without losing a game.
The Rattlers take on both Howard Payne and Schreiner in Kerrville on Saturday beginning at noon.
