SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team continued to roll, sweeping its fourth straight opponent to open the season, defeating Collin College 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
"It was a group effort today," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "We thought everyone played well. It's nice to see that we have a lot of interchangeable players who can play multiple positions at a high level. We're really liking the depth of our team."
The Rattlers (4-0) clinched the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. After the Cougars won 6-2 on court one, sophomore
Lucas Castillo Sanchez (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and freshman
Victor Velter (Perpignan, France) evened things with a 6-3 win at line three. Freshman
Nikita Gavrilonoks (Riga, Latvia) and sophomore
Florian Smalto (Paris, France) secured the team point with their 6-4 victory.
Castillo Sanchez made quick work of giving the Rattlers a 2-0 lead, dropping only one game in his 6-1, 6-0 victory on court two.
Junior
Leonardo Fabbri (Faenza, Italy) won 6-1, 6-3 at line one, and freshman
Diego Alvarez (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) gave the Rattlers the victory with his 7-6 (11-9), 6-3 win at No. 5.
Gavrilonoks, senior
Aaron Ben Anton (Remseck, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany) and sophomore
Lincoln Baldonado (Glendale, Ariz.) all won in three sets to give the Rattlers a 7-0 win.
The Rattlers host Our Lady of the Lake on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. at Rohrbach Tennis Stadium before hosting the Rattlers Pro/Am Doubles fundraiser on Feb. 21.
