SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis snapped a three-match losing skid to Our Lady of the Lake on Thursday, defeating the cross-town foes 5-2 at Rohrbach Tennis Stadium.
The Rattlers improve to 5-0 with the win, while the Saints drop to 2-2 on the young season.
"We had some really good practice sessions leading up to this match, which showed in our confidence today," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "It was hotter than usual today, and it didn't seem to faze us. Our conditioning looked pretty solid."
OLLU started strong, winning 6-3 at number two doubles, but the Rattlers were able to get a break of serve on both courts one and three for the 6-4 wins and the initial point.
Sophomore
Lucas Castillo Sanchez (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) moved to 4-0 on the spring season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Gabriel Noguiera on court two to double the Rattlers' lead. Freshman
Nikita Gavrilonoks (Riga, Latvia) brought the team score to 3-0 with his fifth victory of the year. He won 6-2, 6-2 over Corentin Fusaro at line five.
Junior
Leonardo Fabbri (Faenza, Italy) took over in the tiebreaker in set one to win 7-3 and then pushed for a 6-3 set two win at number one singles to move to 3-0 on the year and clinch the fifth win of the season for the Gold and Blue.
Senior
Aaron Ben Anton (Remseck, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany) won his third dual of the spring, doing so in straight sets at line three over Bastien Prod'homme, 6-3, 6-3.
The Saints won on courts four and six, scoring two points on the day, for the 5-2 final tally.
The Rattlers host the Rattler Pro/Am Doubles fundraiser on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rohrbach Tennis Stadium before hitting the road, as they head to Kearney, Nebraska, to take on Nebraska Kearney, Barton County and Augustana on Feb. 27-28.
