SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Women's Tennis team extended its winning streak to four with a 6-1 victory over Our Lady of the Lake on Tuesday afternoon.
The Rattlers (4-1) are now 7-0 all-time against the Saints (1-1) in women's tennis, and 3-0 on the OLLU Tennis Courts with the lopsided victory.
Senior
Alessia Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) returned to the lineup after missing the first four matches of the season due to injury and paired with freshman
Sarah Wooten (Beaumont, Texas) for a 7-5 win at two doubles to secure the first point of the day for the Rattlers. She then won 6-2, 6-2 at number one singles for the fourth point, clinching the team victory.
Senior
Gia Posito (Houston) and junior
Selina Wu (San Gabriel, Calif.) improved to 5-0 on the year at number one doubles, winning 6-3 over Mava Chambon and Anja Pisar. Wu won at number two singles 6-1, 6-3, while Posito swept at number three by the opposite scores, 6-3, 6-1.
Freshman
Breeze Simon (Dallas) won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 at number six singles, and freshman
Isabella Olsson (Sverige, Sweden) hung on in the second-set tiebreaker for a straight-sets victory, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
"It was good to see our freshmen pick it up a notch," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "That was a difference maker today. Alessia bounced back nicely after having to sit out a few matches, and she certainly raised the energy level out there. Gia and Selina maintained their steady play as well, so I think we're all happy about things trending in the right direction."
The Rattlers now have over two weeks off from competition before heading to Nebraska to take on Nebraska-Kearney on Friday, Feb. 27, and Missouri Western State and Augustana both on Feb. 28.
