KEARNEY, Neb. — The No. 13 St. Mary's University Women's Tennis team snapped a four-match winning streak with a 5-2 setback at Nebraska-Kearney on Friday afternoon.
The Lopers (3-3) won all three doubles matches for the initial point against the Rattlers (4-2).
In singles action, senior
Gia Posito (Houston) remained undefeated on the season, winning her sixth consecutive match with a thrilling come-from-behind 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 win on court three.
The other point for the Rattlers was won by freshman
Breeze Simon (Dallas) at line six. Simon won set one 6-2 but dropped set two 6-1. She refocused in the third set tiebreaker for the 10-4 victory and a 3-1 season record.
Senior
Alessia Terlizzi (Andria, Italy) lost in three sets at line one. After dropping the first set tiebreaker 7-1, she came out swinging in the second set for a 6-1 win; however, Patricija Cechanaviciute battled back for a 6-4 win in the final set.
The Rattlers will play a doubleheader on Saturday at the Ernest Grundy Tennis Center, beginning with Missouri Western State at 9 a.m. and wrapping up the weekend against Augustana (SD) at 2 p.m. The Griffons are 1-1, while the Vikings are 7-1 and have swept their last five opponents.
