Volleyball Goes the Distance Again

SAN ANTONIO — Two evenly matched teams left it all on the court in front of 452 screaming fans inside Bill Greehey Arena on Saturday afternoon, and the Texas A&M-Kingsville Volleyball team escaped with the five-set victory over St. Mary's University, avenging the Rattlers five-set win in Kingsville a month ago.

The five-setter, which saw each of the last three sets decided by the minimum of two points, and the last two go to extra points, featured 43 ties and 17 lead changes throughout.

Senior setter Haleigh Wilk (Salado, Texas) recorded a career-high 55 assists and notched her sixth double-double of the year with 10 digs, while junior libero Kaylee Cavazos (San Antonio) tied her career-high and led the match with 26 digs and three service aces, and freshman Julianna Guajardo (San Juan, Texas) posted a career-best 15 digs.

Graduate student Laurene Robinson (Bedford, Texas) led the match with 21 kills and tied her career-high with 19 digs, while both left side hitters Taylor Alston (San Antonio) and Tara Creekmore (Canton, Mich.) each posted 16 kills, which is a career-best for Creekmore.

Senior Olivia Rubio (San Antonio) tallied a career-high seven blocks, while freshman Madyson Carr (Houston) was right behind her with six.

All seven Rattlers who served posted at least one ace as the team had 10 aces and 10 errors in its 108 attempts.

The Rattlers kick off a four-match road streak on Friday at DBU at the Burg Center. The next home match for the Gold and Blue is Friday, Oct. 23, against Cameron for the team's annual Pink Out match.
