Women's Soccer Ends Season Opener in Scoreless Draw

DURANGO, Colo. — Neither team could find the back of the net in the season opener as the St. Mary's University and Fort Lewis College Women's Soccer teams posted a scoreless draw on Thursday evening at Dirks Field.

The Rattlers collected five shots on goal, with two from senior Shelby Paniagua (Cibolo, Texas), and senior goalkeeper Haley Faucette (Burlington, N.C.) made four saves in her StMU debut.

The Skyhawks outshot StMU 16-to-15 for the game and took eight corners, compared to two for the Rattlers, and each team was whistled offsides once.

Paniagua, Faucette, senior Valerie Hover (McKinney, Texas), junior Ana Parra (San Antonio), and junior Elena Kossler (Ötztal-Bahnhof, Austria) all played the entire 90 minutes of the match.

The Rattlers remain in Colorado, facing Colorado Mesa at Noon (CT) on Saturday, Sept. 6. The Mavericks shut out St. Edward's 4-0 on Thursday evening.
