RICHARDSON, Texas — The St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team has been selected by voters to finish fifth in the 15-team Lone Star Conference standings, the league announced Wednesday.
The Rattlers, which have advanced to five-straight LSC Tournament appearances, were chosen by the league's coaches, media and athletics communications personnel, behind DBU (29 first-place votes, 650 points), Angelo State (13, 634), Texas Woman's (1, 556) and Midwestern State (511) – which knocked StMU out of the playoffs a year ago.
St. Mary's returns 13 players from last season's team that went 9-7-3, including two-time All-Region selection
Shelby Paniagua (Cibolo, Texas) and junior
Sydney Varela (El Paso, Texas), who is returning after missing most of 2024 with an injury. The Rattlers also welcome 19 newcomers to the team, including junior
Elena Kossler (Ötztal-Bahnhof, Austria), who was named to the LSC Players to Watch list.
St. Edward's sophomore Annie Rocha is the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while senior Parker Coe from DBU is the Defensive Player of the Year, and Texas Woman's graduate Amanda Farris is the Preseason Goalkeeper.
The Rattlers open the 2025 campaign at Fort Lewis on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 8 p.m. (CT). The home portion begins on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. against East Central.
