RICHARDSON, Texas — With 14 returning players from last season, the St. Mary's University Volleyball team has been chosen to finish sixth in the extremely competitive Lone Star Conference in 2025, the league announced on Monday.
The Rattlers received 633 points to finish in the top 1/3 of the poll, which was voted on by coaches, select media, and athletics communication personnel. Fresh off an appearance in the Final Four, Angelo State is predicted to win the league title. They collected 30 of the 54 first-place votes and 933 points. Defending regular season champions, West Texas A&M, was voted second with 919 points and 18 first-place nods. UT Tyler (3 first-place votes, 859 points), DBU (2, 803) and Texas Woman's (738) round out the top five.
The St. Mary's lineup features eight players who started in more than one match last season, including seniors
Alyssa Koehl (New Braunfels, Texas) and
Landri Withers (Stephenville, Texas), who started every match and played in all 107 sets. Both were named Players to Watch in the Lone Star, along with junior setter
Haleigh Wilk (Salado, Texas).
Junior outside hitter Madi Parrish from Angelo State, senior middle blocker Taytum Snow from West Texas A&M and senior setter Paige Rivera from UT Tyler were named the Preseason Players of the Year.
2025, the 50th season for St. Mary's Volleyball, gets underway on Sept. 4 at the Hawai'i Challenge, co-hosted by Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade – a sister university to StMU. The Rattlers open against UCCS in a South Central Region match at 8 p.m. (CT)/3 p.m. (HT) at HPU. The other three matches in the tournament will be played at Chaminade.
