FangSide Chats: Getting to Know Frank Kellner

During the summer, St. Mary's athletics will be bringing you "Fangside Chats: Getting to Know" profiles of our head coaches to shine a light on who they are outside of their sport.
 
We sat down with Baseball Head Coach Frank Kellner, who enters year three in 2026. His Rattlers were 29-24 a season ago and reached the first week of the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
 
Q: What is your favorite place you've ever traveled?
A: Glacier National Park for the mountains, wildlife and fishing.
 
Q: What do you enjoy doing most when you're not coaching or recruiting?
A: Hunting and fishing are my two hobbies.
 
Q: What movie will you always watch on tv, no matter how many times you've seen it?
A: Old Yeller and Big Jake.
 
Q: If your pets could speak English, what do you think they'd say?
A: He really likes to be outside.
 
Q: Name three songs on your playlist right now.
A: God's Country – Blake Shelton; Up – Forrest Frank and My Girl – The Temptations.
 
Q: What is your favorite sport to play, other than the one you coach?
A: Basketball
 
Q: Is there a skill you've always wanted to learn?
A: Being fluent in several languages would be nice.
 
Q: Do you have a useless talent?
A: I can climb trees with the best of them.
 
Q: What is the weirdest food or weirdest food combination that you love? 
A: Peanut butter on a tortilla. It's quick energy.
 
Q: In 100 years, how do you think coaching will have changed?
A: Everything will be automated and electronic.
 
Q: What was your first job, and how old were you?
A: I started doing yard work at 12.
 
Q: Who do you feel are the top five athletes of all time in the sport you? 
A: Ted Williams, Barry Bonds, Bo Jackson, Mickey Mantle and Shohei Ohtani
