10/6/2025 2:23:00 PM

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's University Baseball Coach Frank Kellner is pleased to announce the addition of Rick Hubbard as the team's pitching coach.

Hubbard joins St. Mary's from Westmont College, where he spent three seasons in a similar role, helping the team reduce walks per nine innings by 25% and a 20% reduction in team ERA. He also designed an analytics platform that helped the team finish in the top 15 in the NCAA statistics in ERA, WHIP, strikeouts and fewest walks per nine innings.

"We are very excited to welcome Rick Hubbard to our coaching staff," said Kellner. "Rick comes to us by way of Georgia Tech and then Westmont, where he had tremendous success developing one of the top-tier pitching staffs in the country. Rick brings a high understanding of analytics and physical development to our program, where our players will benefit greatly. Rick will be very instrumental in our program's success as we get our 2026 season started."

Prior to Westmont College, Hubbard was the director of pitching for four seasons at Georgia Tech, helping both the 2019 and 2021 teams win the ACC Coastal Division, where multiple players were drafted by the MLB. Hubbard also spent the summers from 2020-2023 serving as the pitching coach of the Santa Barbara Foresters. The team won three-straight NBC World Series titles and saw over 20 players drafted by MLB.

Hubbard received honors as an exercise physiologist from East Carolina University in 2015 and is a nationally Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He also holds national certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Sports and Fitness Association.

A native of Angola, N.Y., Hubbard was a pitcher for the 2013 NCAA Division I MAAC Champion Canisius College baseball team. Following his playing career, Hubbard received a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology and physiology from East Carolina University and a Master of Business Administration from Tiffin University in 2018.
