Men's Tennis Moves to 4-2 in LSC Play With 6-1 Win Over DBU

DALLAS — The No. 37 St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team extended its winning streak to 15-straight over Lone Star Conference foe DBU on Saturday afternoon, winning 6-1.

The Rattlers are now 9-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Patriots are 14-6 on the year and 1-3 in LSC action. The victory puts the Rattlers in third place in the league standings, 1/2 game ahead of Midwestern State and trailing Lubbock Christian and UT Tyler, which are both 4-0.

The number three doubles tandem of freshman Lincoln Baldonado (Glendale, Ariz.) and junior Bernhard Hauer (Vienna, Austria) snapped a three-game losing skid with a dominant 6-1 win to get things going for the Rattlers. Sophomore Leonardo Fabbri (Faenza, Italy) and senior Alvaro Soler (Alicante, Spain) won 6-2 at number one, while freshman Lucas Castillo Sanchez (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and senior Pierre Copin (Vidauban, Var, France) posted a 6-3 victory at line two for the clean sweep.

"We played some solid doubles today to get us the lead," said Director of Tennis Bill Macom. "The wind picked up quite a bit during the singles, where we got off to a slow start on a few courts, but, fortunately, the guys started to extend their rallies and got the job done."

Copin clinched the team win with his 6-4, 6-1 victory on court four, after Castillo Sanchez and Soler had already finished their straight sets victories at lines two and three, respectively. Baldonado extended his winning streak to three straight with his 6-4, 6-2 score on court six and Hauer got a late break in the first set and carried over the momentum for a 6-2 win in set two at five singles for the 6-0 tally. The Patriots won on court one for the 6-1 final score.

The Rattlers have next week off from competition as neither Texas A&M-Kingsville or Angelo State have men's teams, returning to action at Cameron on April 24 and closing out the regular season at Midwestern State on April 26.
