Corona Responsible for Eight of 10 Runs in Softball Sweep Over Canyon

SAN ANTONIO — Freshman Miah Corona collected six RBIs and scored twice as the St. Mary's University Softball team swept a doubleheader against Cameron, winning 7-3 and 5-4 to improve to 17-12 on the year and 12-6 in Lone Star Conference play.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the first baseman from Eddy, Texas, doubled to the gap in left centerfield to give the Rattlers a walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh for the team's first walk-off victory of the season. She was 3-for-4 with three RBIs in game one and 2-for-4 with three RBIs in game two, stretching her career-long hitting streak to seven games.

The Rattlers host #18 Oklahoma Christian on Sunday. The first pitch of game one is slated for Noon. The Eagles dropped both games on Friday at St. Edward's.

GAME ONE RECAP
Junior Arianna (AJ) Sanchez (San Antonio) came up with a big pinch hit to score the winning runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, singling to centerfield to drive home both Lauryn Ramos (Marion, Texas) and Jaylan Roberson (Elgin, Texas).

Ariella Saenz (Pharr, Texas) shut down the Aggies (13-11, 8-10) offense, coming in during the third inning. She allowed only five hits over the final 4 1/3 innings and didn't allow a run with one walk and one strikeout. She also made two plays in the circle, including starting the double play to end the game, turning around and throwing to Ramos at second. Senior Jadyn Abrego (San Antonio) started in the circle, pitching 2 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout. Abrego retired the first seven batters she faced before running into a small jam.

Ramos played superb defense at shortstop, making three putouts with five assists and robbing two Aggies hitters of singles up the middle by getting to the ball and throwing to Corona at first in time.

The Rattlers scored their seven runs on nine hits, with senior Lauren Gonzales (San Antonio) reaching base all three times with a pair of singles and a walk.

GAME TWO RECAP
Every time the Aggies scored, the Rattlers had an answer in the second game. CU plated one on a solo home run in the first and StMU immediately answered with three in the bottom half of the frame. Cameron added two in the sixth to knot the score at 3-3, and the Rattlers scored one. In the seventh, CU tied the score again at 4-4 before Corona drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Senior Madeline Bloom (Poway, Calif.) allowed only one run on five hits through four innings of work in the circle. She didn't walk a batter and struck out three. Junior Breanna Ford (Corpus Christi, Texas) pitched two innings, allowing two runs on two hits with three walks. Senior Savannah Youngblood (Kingwood, Texas) picked up her first win of the year (1-3) after surrendering one run on one hit with a strikeout on the seventh inning.

Gonzales kept up her fantastic day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. She also stole a base.

Senior Mene'e Padilla (San Antonio) made her return to the diamond after missing a month due to injury. The catcher worked three innings in game one and caught four innings in game two, throwing out a base runner trying to steal second base.

In addition to the runner thrown out, the Rattlers' defense turned two double plays in game two, limiting the Aggies chances on the base paths.
