Late Addition to Men's Tennis Slate Swings Rattlers Way

SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team rebounded after losing the doubles point on Saturday morning to NCAA Division III No. 11 Trinity to win five of the six singles matches and post a 5-2 victory.

Junior Aaron Ben Anton (Remseck, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany) got the singles action started with a 6-2, 6-3 win at line five, while freshman Lucas Castillo Sanchez (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) won 6-2, 6-2 on court three to give the Rattlers the 2-1 advantage.

Fellow freshman Lincoln Baldonado (Glendale, Ariz.) kept the momentum going with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Eric Liao on court four. Sophomore Leonardo Fabbri (Faenza, Italy) won his opening set 6-1 before Ryan Warren came back to win the second set 6-2. Fabbri settled in to win the deciding set 6-3.

Senior Alvaro Soler (Alicante, Spain) dropped his first set on court two, 6-2, but won the following two sets, 7-5, 6-3 for the team victory.

The teams also played three other non-scoring singles matches, and the Rattlers won all three as Bernhard Hauer (Vienna, Austria), Louis Hein (Hamburg, Germany) and Daniel Matheu Baldor (Madrid, Spain) were all victorious.

The Rattlers head out on the road, playing a trio of teams at the Blue & Gold Crossover on Friday and Saturday. StMU opens with Rockhurst, before playing Harding and Northwest Missouri State.
