Men's Basketball Leads Wire-to-Wire Over Oklahoma Christian

SAN ANTONIO — The No. 25 St. Mary's University Men's Basketball team shot 60 percent from the field in building an 18-point lead in the first half as they led wire-to-wire in an 81-60 win over Oklahoma Christian on Thursday evening.

Senior Franklin Agu (London, England) led a trio of Rattlers (18-5, 15-2) in double-figure scoring with a season-high 18 points. He narrowly missed his second double-double with a game-high nine rebounds. Both Malcolm Steadman (Union City, Calif.) and Sebastian Mendoza (Riverside, Calif.) added 13 points each, while Mendoza led the game with a season-best five assists.

There wasn't much flow to the second half, as the two teams combined to commit 21 fouls and shoot 27 free throws. The Rattlers were 13-for-17 after halftime, finishing the game 20-for-31, while the Eagles (7-16, 4-14) were 11-for-16 for the game.

For the third time this season, the Rattlers recorded more rebounds on offense than defense, grabbing 22 offensive rebounds compared to 20 defensive ones. They almost recorded more on offense than the Eagles had total boards in the game, holding OC to 26 caroms on the night.

Oklahoma Christian was led in scoring by Tyrus Baynham Jr., with 14 points, while Keyondre Young scored 13 and Miles Gibson added 11. Baynham and Nickolas Traylor each had four rebounds, while Javon Grant led the team with four assists.

St. Mary's closes out a four-game homestand, hosting Cameron on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Aggies lost a close, high-scoring affair at St. Edward's on Thursday, 101-99.
