RICHARDSON, Texas — It wasn't a matter of if she'd be honored, only when, for St. Mary's University Women's Soccer fans. On Monday, junior forward
Elena Kossler (Ötztal-Bahnhof, Austria) was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Kossler scored four goals in a game and totaled 11 points over an unbeaten week against UT Tyler and Eastern New Mexico. Kossler assisted on the first goal against ENMU, then scored the next four – including the game-winner – as the Rattlers won 5-1. It was the most points (nine) scored in a single match in the LSC this season and just the second four-goal performance. The four goals also tied a program record. On the road against UT Tyler, Kossler scored the Rattlers' only goal in the 60th minute. Her play has also helped StMU suffer just one loss over its last eight matches. Kossler leads the LSC in goals per match (.8957) and is tied for the lead with four game-winners.
Kossler now has 12 goals on the season, which already ties her for fourth in St. Mary's single-season history, and she and the team have three games remaining in the regular season. It is the first weekly honor for the Rattlers this season.
