ROCKWALL, Texas — The No. 13 St. Mary's University Men's Golf team was ten-under after the first 18 holes and sits in a tie for second after 36 holes at the DBU Classic.
The Rattlers (278-293) are tied with Southern Arkansas (292-279) at 571 strokes and two shots off the lead by No. 6 Central Oklahoma (285-284=569). Host DBU is eight strokes behind StMU.
Senior
Kongpop Kaikaew (Rayong, Thailand) posted a pair of 69's on day one and is in second place, two shots behind TCU's Lewis Wright, who is competing as an individual. He leads Southern Arkansas' Luke Cote by two strokes. Kaikaew is eight-under-par on the par-5 holes to lead the entire field, thanks in part to a pair of eagles in the second round (holes 6 and 18).
Junior
Philip Hallström (Gävle, Sweden) tied for the low round of the day, firing a career-low 66 on the opening 18 holes. Hallström collected seven birdies with only one bogey, bettering his previous low round of 68 from the Lone Star Conference Championship a season ago.
Senior
Baptiste Touchard (Saint-Agathon, France) sits in a four-way tie for 20th place. He shot a 69 in the opening round, but hit a rough stretch in round two where he had five bogeys in six holes before settling in and getting nine pars with only one bogey and one birdie on the final 11 holes.
Sophomores
Elijah Galvan (Austin, Texas) and
Guillaume Paquette (La Minerve, Quebec) are locked in an 11-way tie for 32nd place. Galvan fired a 74 and a 75, while Paquette was five over in the morning and carded an even-par 72 in the afternoon.
Freshman
Lewie Melton (Fredericksburg, Texas), competing in his first collegiate tournament as an individual, is tied for 73rd with a pair of 78s.
For the final day of the fall season, the Rattlers will be partnered with golfers from Central Oklahoma, Southern Arkansas and DBU. Tee time information was not available at press time.
