LAREDO, Texas — Exploding for a career-high 25 points, St. Mary's University Women's Basketball freshman forward
Lena Newby helped lift the Rattlers to a 73-50 victory at Texas A&M International on Thursday night.

Newby, a first-year player from Cibolo, Texas, entered the night having scored four on three previous occasions and 19 points through the first 16 games, and she recorded the highest scoring total of any Rattler this season and the most since Hannah Wilson scored 28 against West Texas A&M on Feb. 21, 2022. She also doubled her career high with eight rebounds and tied her career-high with three blocked shots.

The Rattlers led wire-to-wire for the second time this season, as they scored the first five points of the game to improve to 11-8 overall and 7-6 in Lone Star action.

Christin Callens (Houston) added 14 points, while redshirt freshman
Daniela Ciscar (Valencia, Spain) collected a career-high 11 rebounds to lead the game. Freshman
Tiara Louis (San Antonio) led the team with four assists

St. Mary's completely controlled the boards, out-rebounding the Dustdevils (5-15, 4-10) 49-to-14. The 49 rebounds are the second-most by the team this season, and the +35 margin is the largest of the year.

The Rattlers also shot 48.3 percent from the field, the second-highest of the year, trailing only the 48.9 in the win over Oklahoma Baptist. They also held TAMIU to 26.3 percent for the night.

No Rattler played over 24 minutes, and four of the five starters were able to play under 20 minutes. It is the third-straight win on the road for the Rattlers, the longest road-winning streak of the season.

St. Mary's travels to face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Javelinas defeated St. Edward's 59-50 on Thursday evening.
