SAN ANTONIO — Despite three players scoring in double figures, the St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team couldn't overcome a tough stretch in the second quarter on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 74-54 contest to UT Permian Basin.
The Rattlers move to 10-8 on the season and 6-6 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Falcons improve to 10-9 and 8-5 in league action.
Sophomore guard
Andrea Montesinos (Valencia, Spain) continued her hot play from overtime on Thursday, draining four three-pointers and grabbing six rebounds. Both junior
Imani Ivery (Houston) and freshman
Christin Callens (Houston) added 10 points, while freshman
Raynne Malik (London, Ontario) tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds and had four blocked shots. She and junior
Quezia Bertoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each had three assists to tie for team-high honors, while freshman
Tiara Louis (San Antonio) had three steals.
Makala Bingley led the game with 19 points, while Taysha Rushton and Avalon Munoz scored 16 and 14 points, respectively, for the Falcons, and they also won the battle of the boards, 39-to-36.
Both teams shot well from the free throw line, with the Rattlers sinking 8-of-10, and the Falcons making 12-of-14. Malik and Callens were each perfect from the line, combining to hit all five attempts.
The Rattlers return to East Division play, traveling to Laredo to face Texas A&M International on Thursday and at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon.
