Sophomore guard
Andrea Montesinos (Valencia, Spain) took over in the extra period, scoring six points, grabbing three rebounds and dishing out a pair of assists as the Rattlers (10-7, 6-5) outscored the Rambelles (13-5, 9-3) 14-4.
Â
Montesinos scored a career-high 16 points, tied her career-high with six assists, and tied for game-high honors with two steals. Junior guard
Quezia Bertoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) also posted a career-high in scoring, tying for game-high honors with 19 points, knotting freshman forward
Christin Callens (Houston).
Â
Freshman
Raynne Malik (London, Ontario) led the game with 13 rebounds, the fifth time in the last six games she's collected double digits.Â
Â
The win snaps a four-game losing skid to the Rambelles and is the third-straight victory for StMU, giving the Rattlers double figures in wins for the first time since 2019-20. St. Mary's also improves to 10-0 on the year when shooting over 40 percent from the field, as they connected at a 41.9 percent pace on Thursday.
Â
The Rattlers scored 10 of the first 12 points of the game to take a 13-6 lead after the first 10 minutes. The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with the 'Belles scoring 20 and the Rattlers 19 for the 32-26 halftime score. Callens led all players with 13 points, while she and Malik each had six rebounds.
Â
Angelo State scored 13 of the first 14 points of the third quarter to grab the lead, but StMU scored 12 of the last 20 to cut the deficit to two, 47-45. The fourth quarter was much of the same – a back-and-forth affair – with Ivery hitting a pullup with 13 seconds left to knot the score at 60-60 and force overtime. The 'Belles had two shots in the final 10 seconds to possibly win the game, but both rimmed out.
