RICHARDSON, Texas — After recording a pair of double-doubles and blocking 4.5 shots per game, St. Mary's University Women's Basketball freshman
Raynne Malik has been named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Malik scored 15 and grabbed 10 rebounds in each of the Rattlers' two road wins last week, as the team swept its first road conference trip since 2020 with a 56-51 win over Cameron and a 59-51 win at Oklahoma Christian. She also blocked nine shots, swatting four against the Aggies before collecting a career-best five over the Eagles. Of her 20 rebounds for the week, 19 were on the defensive end of the floor, limiting second-chance opportunities as the Rattlers allowed each opponent 51 points and a combined 30.6 percent shooting from the field. Malik also missed only one shot inside the arc, shooting an outstanding 70.6 percent from the field.
Malik moved into 10th on the St. Mary's single-season record list with 33 blocked shots for the season. She leads the Lone Star Conference and ranks 17th nationally with 2.20 blocks per game. The Rattlers improved to 9-7 overall and 5-5 in Lone Star play with the sweep over the Oklahoma schools.
