Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Stretches Streak to Four

TYLER, Texas — It takes an entire team to keep a streak going, and that's exactly what happened inside the Louise Herrington Patriot Center on Saturday afternoon as all nine St. Mary's University Men's Basketball players scored at least two points and brought down one or more rebounds in a closely fought 57-53 victory over UT Tyler.

The win improves the Rattlers to 10-4 overall and 7-1 in Lone Star Conference play and pushes the winning streak to four and seven straight in LSC action.

Junior guard Damani Claxton (Bronx, N.Y.) kept the hot hand, scoring 20 of the team's 57 points, and was the only player in the game to reach double figures in the points column.

Lachlan Bofinger, a graduate student from Sydney, Australia, led the team with 10 rebounds and four assists and had the club's lone blocked shot. He also scored nine points to tie for second in the game.

The Rattlers returned to form, turning the ball over only eight times after committing a season-high 20 on Thursday at #8 DBU. Both teams struggled shooting, connecting on less than 40 percent from the field, 30 percent from the three-point line, and 60 percent from the free throw line.

UT Tyler (7-8, 4-5) was led in scoring by Sam Phipps and Akok Machar with nine points each, while Phipps led the game with 13 boards. Dontrell Howard had half of the team's assists with four.

The Rattlers remain on the road, playing at Cameron on Thursday evening and Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies defeated Texas A&M International 74-65, while the Eagles lost at Texas A&M-Kingsville, 79-65 on Saturday.
