TYLER, Texas — The cold weather from outside seemed to blow through the Louis Herrington Patriot Center on Saturday, keeping the shooting cold for both teams as No. 14 UT Tyler held on for a 37-31 win over St. Mary's University.
Â
Both teams shot below 30 percent for the game, aided by the tough defense from both sides, and almost half of the 68 points in the game were scored in the third quarter as each team poured in 16.
Â
Junior guard
Imani Ivery (Houston) connected on four three-pointers, leading all players with 14 points, while freshman
Christin Callens (Houston) grabbed a game- and career-high 10 rebounds.
Â
The Rattlers (7-7, 3-5) shared the ball well, recording nine assists on 11 made baskets, as Callens led the way with three and Ivery added a pair. StMU forced the Patriots into 13 turnovers and turned that into nine points, while they did a great job of limiting UT Tyler to two points off turnovers after committing 20 miscues.
Â
Ella Bradley led the Patriots (13-2, 8-1) with 11 points, with eight coming in the first half, while Lovisa Hevinder led the team with nine boards and five assists.
Â
St. Mary's remains on the road for one more week, traveling to Oklahoma to face Cameron on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Oklahoma Christian on Saturday at 1 p.m.
