AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team doubled up rival, St. Edward's, in shots on goal on Sunday afternoon, but had to settle for a scoreless draw at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
Â
The Rattlers (1-1-2) fired off six shots on goal, with two coming from senior
Andrick Ferrer (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior
Johnny Thurbin (Lingfield, Surrey, England) was credited with two saves in the non-conference contest.
Â
"It wasn't a great day for us today," said Head Coach
Johnny Clifford. "We were very sluggish in the first half and failed to set a tempo on the game. The second half was much better and we created a lot of chances but the final touch was not there. St. Ed's defended hard and deserved their point."
Â
Two of the three shots on goal for the Hilltoppers (0-2-1) came in the first half from Arthur Souza and Thurbin saved the lone on-target shot in the 81st minute.
Â
After playing three straight matches on the road, the Rattlers return home to host Academy of Art on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. A year ago, StMU defeated the Urban Knights 3-0 with Thurbin recording the first clean sheet of his career.
