Aggies and Rattlers Baseball Both Use the Long Ball in Game One

SAN ANTONIO – The name of the game at Dickson Stadium on Friday evening was the home run derby as the two baseball teams combined to hit seven..

The St. Mary's University Baseball team hit three in a 13-6 loss to Cameron, while the Aggies hit four on a night where the wind was blowing in from centerfield.

Seniors RJ Galvan (Alice, Texas) and Devin Goins (San Antonio) hit back-to-back jacks in the fourth inning, marking the third time this season the Rattlers have hit home runs in consecutive at bats. Goins left the yard again in the sixth with Galvan on base. StMU also plated one run each in the eighth and ninth innings for the team's six runs.

The Aggies scored two each in the second and third innings, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and three each in the seventh and eighth frames for the lopsided win.

Galvan and Goins combined for four of the team's six hits on the evening and Goins had three of the club's six RBI. It is the first time this year Goins has had a multi-home run game. He joins Garrett Brooks (Spring Branch, Texas) who has accomplished the feat twice this year.

Senior Javier De Alejandro (San Antonio) was tagged with the loss on the hill after giving up five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts through four innings of work. Gabe Cook, Cameron Hodges, Tyler Pauly and Miguel Bustamante all worked in relief. Only Bustamante kept the Aggies off the scoreboard and he walked one and struck out two in 1 1/3 innings.

The Aggies and Rattlers play a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch for game one is slated for 2 p.m.
