SAN ANTONIO — A late offensive explosion by the fourth-ranked team in the nation made for a lopsided score on Sunday in the last game of the series as West Texas A&M Baseball defeated St. Mary's University, 19-1.
Â
The Rattlers (18-24) managed one run on seven hits throughout the seven innings but stranded seven runners on base. The Buffs (31-11) scored 19 runs on 17 hits and were aided by two StMU miscues.
Â
Senior catcher
Devin Goins (San Antonio) continued to see the ball well, going 2-for-3. Senior
Easton Parrish (La Vernia, Texas) scored the lone run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior
Rudy Solis (El Paso, Texas).Â
Â
All nine Buffs in the starting lineup reached base at least once as they scored seven runs in both the fifth and sixth innings and added three in the seventh after posting one run in each the first and fourth innings for their 19.
Â
The two teams split the four-game series, with the Rattlers winning the first two and WT winning the final two.
Â
St. Mary's heads to Portales, N.M., to take on Eastern New Mexico in a four-game set beginning on Friday at 5 p.m. The Greyhounds won three of four high-scoring games at Oklahoma Christian, where the winning team scored at least 13 runs in all four.
