SAN ANTONIO — A game-saving catch at the fence in the top of the ninth with two outs by senior
Trey Guajardo was the final fantastic play made in a game full of them as the St. Mary's University Baseball team defeated fourth-ranked West Texas A&M 4-3 at Dickson Stadium on Friday night.
The win by the Rattlers (17-22) snapped a six-game winning streak for the Buffaloes (29-10), who jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with one run in each of the first three innings.
St. Mary's scored two runs in the fourth and two in the sixth and worked out of a jam in the top of the ninth to hold on for the win.

Javier De Alejandro (San Antonio) pitched five solid innings, starting on the hill. He allowed two earned runs on five hits with four walks and a strikeout in a no decision. Freshman
Matthew Janecek (Houston) earned his first collegiate win pitching a scoreless sixth and fellow freshman
Gabe Cook (San Antonio) only surrendered one hit in two innings with two walks and a strikeout. Senior
Brett Brown (Sinton, Texas) retired all three batters he faced in the ninth, entering with runners on first and second to secure the victory and pick up his second save of the year.

Devin Goins (San Antonio) collected his third-straight multi-game hit, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk, while fellow senior
Rudy Solis (El Paso, Texas) was 1-for-4 but drove in both runs in the sixth with his double to the gap in left-center. Guajardo (San Juan, Texas) also hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to pull the Rattlers within one at the time, 3-2.
Each team totaled seven hits with one error on the night, while the Buffs stranded 10 runners on base, compared to only six for the Rattlers.
The two teams return to the diamond on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The series concludes on Sunday, with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
