Baseball Falters in Doubleheader

LUBBOCK, Texas — The St. Mary's University Baseball team ran into a streaking Lubbock Christian University on Saturday, dropping both games of a doubleheader, 15-2 and 7-2.

In the first game, the Rattlers (9-12, 7-12 Lone Star Conference) scored their two runs on five hits and were aided by three Chaps (16-7, 16-7 Lone Star) errors.

Senior catcher Devin Goins (San Antonio) was 2-for-3 and drove in one run, while fellow senior RJ Galvan (Alice, Texas) was 1-for-3, scoring on a Goins hit and driving in a run of his own.

Sophomore Kaleb Gauna (Hondo, Texas) moved to 0-1 on the year in the loss. He worked one inning, allowing four runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout. Senior Matt Bundy (Whitehouse, Texas) pitched one inning, while freshman Gabe Cook (San Antonio) had the longest outing of his career at three frames. Freshman Brennan Greer (San Antonio) didn't allow any hits in his one inning of work, though he walked one and hit another, but the defense behind him turned a double play to end the threat.

The Rattlers also had two runs on five hits in the nightcap. Freshman Dillon Lopez (San Antonio) was 2-for-3 at the plate, while junior Jorge Cuevas (El Paso, Texas) drove in both runs.

Senior Karlo Kalifa (Round Rock, Texas) fell to 1-2 after giving up five earned runs on five hits, walking three and fanning two others. Sophomore Brody Ticer (San Antonio) pitched three innings, while junior Carlos Flores Jr. (San Antonio) threw the final frame.
