SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Men's Tennis team rebounded from a heart-breaking loss against #20 UT Tyler on Friday to sweep all seven points against DBU on Saturday.
Â
"We didn't let yesterday's tough defeat against Tyler slow us down," said Director of Tennis
Bill Macom. "Doubles play was aggressive and that rolled into all the singles matches. Our team chemistry is on a roll right now and our upperclassmen are showing some great leadership on the courts. Everyone is doing a great job implementing their practice sessions into their matches."
Â
The local combination of seniors
Jake Faryniarz (San Antonio) and
Ryan Koth (Boerne) improved to 2-1 on the season and 2-0 in the spring with their 6-1 win on court one to start the Rattlers (3-7, 1-3 Lone Star Conference) off on the right foot.Â
Â
The European tandem of senior
Oskar Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia) and junior
Alvaro Soler (Alicante, Spain) were on court two and posted a 6-3 victory to clinch the first point of the afternoon.
Â
Freshman
Louis Hein (Hamburg, Germany) and senior
Nicolas Llosa (Lima, Peru) completed the doubles win with a 6-4 victory at line three.
Â
All six singles matches were won in straight sets by the Rattlers, including a double bagel victory for Llosa on court five. Irdoja also only dropped one game to improve to a perfect 4-0 in Lone Star Conference play.
Â
