Caron Puts On Shooting Clinic as MBB Takes Down Hilltoppers

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's University Men's Basketball Senior Tyler Caron put on a shooting clinic early as the Rattlers won the first installment of the Battle of the Saints on Tuesday night, 82-80.

Caron, a senior from Longview, Texas, made his first six shots from the field, including five three-pointers in the first 15:22 and went on to score a season-high 23 points. He also blocked a career-best five shots, including one with 10 seconds remaining to help preserve the victory.

Senior Jalon Johnson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) tied his career-high with 22 points, going 7-for-8 at the free throw line.

Both Lachlan Bofinger (Sdyney, Australia) and Franklin Agu (London, England) posted double-doubles as Bofinger scored 15 and brought down 11 rebounds and Agu chipped in 14 points with 11 boards, seven of which were offensive.

The Hilltoppers (20-10, 13-8) are coming off one of the biggest wins in program history as they defeated top-ranked West Texas A&M on Saturday, 88-87, and they mounted a comeback against the Rattlers but ran out of time. All five starters for SEU scored in double digits, led by Sean Elkington with 18. He also led the team with eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

The two teams finish the yearly Battle of the Saints on Thursday in Austin. Tip-off will be at approximately 7:30 p.m. and will be the final game of the year for St. Mary's.
