SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Men's Basketball team kept within striking distance of top-ranked West Texas A&M throughout the three-quarters of the game until the Buffaloes went on an 11-0 run midway through the second half for the 88-63 victory.
Four Rattlers (11-14, 7-12 Lone Star Conference) scored in double figures, led by senior
Tyler Caron (Longview, Texas) with 14. Before the game, Caron was presented with a commemorative basketball for scoring the 1,000th point of his career at DBU on Feb. 10. Caron also moved into the top-20 in St. Mary's career scoring with 1,045, passing Adrian Wright (1988-91) who scored 1,036 in his career.
Senior
Lachlan Bofinger (Sydney, Australia) scored 11 points and brought down a game-high 12 rebounds. He also blocked a pair of shots. Senior
Keith Dinwiddie (Los Angeles) scored 11 and junior
Franklin Agu (London, England) scored 10 and collected seven boards.
St. Mary's had a tough night at the free throw line, making only three of its 11 attempts (27.3 percent).
The Buffs (25-1, 19-0 Lone Star) were led by Larry Wise with 22 points, while Kieran Elliott was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 11. Brock Mishak led the game with six assists and he blocked two shots.
St. Mary's hosts Lubbock Christian on Saturday for Senior Day. The Chaps lost 91-84 at St. Edward's on Thursday evening. The senior day festivities will happen 10 minutes before tipoff as the Rattlers will honor five.
