FORT SMITH, Ark. — The St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team couldn't overcome a hot start from the three-point line for Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday afternoon, falling 86-56.

The Lions (10-15, 8-11 Lone Star Conference) drained eight triples in the first half, sinking 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) to help build a 24-point lead. The Rattlers (4-20, 4-14 Lone Star) remained close in the second half but could not close the gap.

Taylor Haggan (Parker, Texas) led with a game-high 16 points, while junior
Stina Svilberg (Tallinn, Estonia) added 10 points, a team-high seven rebounds and three assists.

UAFS had six players reach double figures in the scoring column, led by Kayla Brundidge with 13 points and eight rebounds. Zyniah Thomas led the game with six assists. The Lions were extremely efficient, turning the ball over only seven times.Â

The Lions sank 10 three-pointers in the contest, compared to two for the Rattlers. Both teams were 10-for-15 from the free throw line.

St. Mary's returns home after the long four-game road swing, hosting West Texas A&M on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Lubbock Christian on Saturday for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
