Women's Basketball Surrenders Early Lead

OKLAHOMA CITY — St. Mary's University senior Teanna Huggins returned to the starting lineup on Thursday and responded by making six of eight baskets for a team-high 13 points in an 84-53 loss at Oklahoma Christian.

Freshman Taylor Haggan (Parker, Texas) narrowly missed another double-double, scoring nine and tying for team-high honors with eight rebounds. Senior Natalia Ryng (Gdynia, Poland) recorded three of the team's four steals.

For the second-straight game against the Eagles (4-18, 3-15 Lone Star Conference), the Rattlers (4-19, 4-13 Lone Star) had the lead at the end of the first quarter, this time 11-to-10, but couldn't sustain, getting outscored in the next three quarters.

St. Mary's struggled from the arc, connecting on only 2-for-16, making 1-of-8 in each of the two halves. Both freshmen Ramsey Robledo (San Antonio) and Vani Sancho (Baton Rouge, La.) sank one.

The Gold and Blue did a good job of sharing the ball, recording 13 assists on 20 made baskets. Haggan and senior Ariah Powell (Detroit, Mich.) each had three.

Taylor Jackson led Oklahoma Christian with 15 points, while senior Brooklin Bain added 19 points and tied for game-high honors with eight rebounds.

The four-game road trip for the Rattlers concludes on Saturday at UAFS. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. during Homecoming Weekend for the Lions. UAFS defeated St. Edward's 75-50 on Thursday evening.
