SAN ANTONIO — The St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team hung with Texas A&M International in the first half, but a shortened bench helped lead to a 77-62 defeat on Thursday evening.
The Rattlers (3-16, 3-10 Lone Star Conference) were without the use of four student-athletes due to illness, leaving only nine available. Freshman guard
Ramsey Robledo (San Antonio) responded by tying her career-high with 15 points.
Senior
Ariah Powell (Detroit, Mich.) and junior
Stina Svilberg (Tallinn, Estonia) also hit double digits in points with 11 and 10, respectively.
StMU turned the ball over a season-high 34 times, but out-rebounded the Dustdevils (18-4, 10-4 Lone Star) 36-to-33 on the night.
The Rattlers also out-blocked TAMIU 5-to-2 with freshman
Taylor Haggan (Parker, Texas) and sophomore
Sian Phipps (Houston) each swatting two.
Returning to the StMU lineup after a four-game absence, senior
Natalia Ryng (Gdynia, Poland) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and had a perfect night from the floor, making both shots and all three of her free throw attempts.
Rai Brown led the Dustdevils with 25 points, while Angelique Morgan had a team-best six rebounds.
The Rattlers remain at home, hosting Texas A&M Kingsville on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Javelinas defeated St. Edward's 64-57 in Austin on Thursday night.
