ALPINE, Texas — The St. Mary's University Women's Basketball team responded in a big way after a rough first quarter at Sul Ross State on Friday evening, outscoring the newest Lone Star Conference team by 16 over the final three periods for the 74-68 win in a non-conference contest.
The Rattlers (2-1) used a nine-point scoring run to start the second quarter and cut the deficit from 10 to one, and took their first lead of the quarter with 39 seconds remaining when freshman
Charli Graziano (Perth, Australia) drained a three-pointer for her first points of the game. She hit two of the team's six triples on the night for eight points and a team-high three assists.
Freshman
Christin Callens (Houston) continued to establish her dominance in the paint, scoring a career-high 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting. She also grabbed eight rebounds, one off the team lead of nine by fellow freshman
Raynne Malik (London, Ontario). Malik also blocked three shots.
Senior
Stina Svilberg (Tallinn, Estonia) added 15 points, four rebounds and two assists, while
Imani Ivery (Houston) played in her first game of the year and scored eight points in 11 minutes off the bench.
The Rattlers did a good job of crashing the boards, as they out-rebounded the Lobos (0-1) by 11, 46-to-35.
St. Mary's takes on UT Dallas on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. in a preview of next year's addition to the LSC. The Comets are 1-2 on the year after defeating Chapman on Friday evening.
